I have had the privilege of sharing in the births of thousands of babies at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, where I have worked for nearly two decades.
The birth process has fascinated me since I was a child, and pregnancy care has always been more of a passion than a career for me. In 1990, after observing that women were coming into the hospital more worried and anxious about labor, I started a unique pre- and post-natal teaching program: PillowTalk, Modern Childbirth Education. Here women could learn not to overwhelm themselves with information and to focus instead on trusting their bodies and enjoying their pregnancies. In the mid 1990s, I founded Stork Site®, a community website for expectant and new parents. Bursting with activity, this site became one of the Internet’s first successful communities.
In April 2008, The Joy of Pregnancy, The Complete, Candid, and Reassuring Companion for Parents-To-Be, was published. In a lighthearted and encouraging tone, I hope to help parents-to-be concentrate on the miracle of pregnancy and birth rather than on possible complications. I live with my family in Marin County, CA.
